Bvt. Brig. Genl. W. G. Thomas U.S.A.
Sub Asst. Commissioner.

General:
I have the honor to request the following information.

Can any assistance be furnished from the Bureau, the Peabody fund, or from any other source, to help in organizing a School for white children, in a poor neighborhood, 3 miles east of Christiansburg in this county. On the Land owned by a Mr. Leeney, there is an old building, formerly used for church and School purposes, and which was built by the people of that section, for the objects herein specified. This building is in a dilapidated condition, but can be placed in proper repairs, by the people themselves, if sufficient help is afforded them, to furnish, and put the School room in order.

Transcription Notes:
I think that the "Bvt" stands for Brevet and the "usa" after General Thomas name stands for U.S. Army.
