Dear Sir,
I have the honor herewith to transmit you a copy of my letter of Sept 27th by which you will see that I notify you that I have engaged a Mr Safenight claim that the colored people cant pay enough to keep the school going & ask at any rate for $15 a month. &c &c &c.
By your letter of Oct. 30th a copy of which I transmit, you will see you say [[strikethrough]] if [[/strikethrough]] "But - I may venture to say now that I am very sure that a moderate support will be extended whenever Teacher & school can be maybe forgotten" & then, "If he" (Mr. Jones) "does not provide I will see that the $15 you ask for for Mr. Safenight is made up"
On the strength of this Mr. Safenight goes on, receiving but $12.50
