Dear Sir,

I have taken my pen to ask aid for the colored people of this place.

You are aware that it is the slice town of Rockingham Co. and of course a centre from which educational influence should radiate.

There are some six-hundred colored people in this town, probably more, who are doing their best to educate their children and themselves. They have built partially, a school house, but are not able to finish it. I have been appointed to this place am a native of Mass; am Com'd by the Am. Miss.
