Rev. R. M. Manly
Supt Education

Dear Sir,

In reply to your letter of Nov 20th rec'd Nov 24/68 I have the honor to say that I have already teachers both at Elk Creek & near Independence P.A. They are not of course well educated but will do to teach the children for this year. I knew if I did'nt [[didn't]] start the schools when I was on the ground they would'nt [[wouldn't]] be started at all. So I run the risk of offering the Teacher something an amount which I could pay out of my own pocket if the amount asked for was disallowed.

With regard to Elk Creek. The school house was an uncommonly good one for about here, tight & warm. 20 x 24 feet, & is on land of L. M Fulton. Sheriff of the County & a man of much more than [[crossed out]] the [[/crossed out]] usual wealth.
