Sir:

In accordance with the suggestion of Mr. Manley, who, with Mr. Washburn, both of your Bureau, recently visited our schools, I furnish herewith:- 1. A list of Teachers employed in our colored schools. 2. Estimates of cost of improvements proposed to be made in the school building occupied by the colored schools, and the actual rents and running expenses paid by us for colored schools, with estimate value of rents of school houses owned by the city.

The estimates for improvements & repairs make an amount greater than I anticipated but they are made by competent authority, and include only such work as ought to be done, although some of it we will not put in, unless the means is furnished us by you. We have not the money to do it with.

In support of our request that you will aid us as liberally as possible, we submit a few facts for your consideration.
