urgent letter from Dr. W A. Brisbane, Commissioner of South Carolina in reference to the wants of that region in the course of which he says: 
"I am pleased to learn that Miss Lynch is appointed to teach for her school at the Free Mission House (College Square as it is designated in the plot);- she will suit the people. My Colleague, Judge Wording has the superintendence of the schools under Gen O.O. Howard supported by my permanent fund which was raised by our Tax Commissioner. He says he will pay Miss Lynch her salary out of that fund to the amount of $35 a month and her postage from Richmond
