Harper's Ferry W. Va Dec 22, 1868 Captain Manly: Dear Sir- We have been charging the scholars in Lexington about $.22 per month each - have got enough to pay for fuel and [[strikethrough]] most [[/strikethrough]] about half of the board of teachers- Many are too poor to pay anything I would like to make it for this winter if possible- If I can get some where near enough from Bureau and Peabody Fund [[strikethrough]] so as to [[/strikethrough]] to pay board, I will do so- Very Sincerely yours N.C.
