ans'g the double use of sch.-house & church was finished at a cost of $800. & supplied with maps & the etcetera necessary to a primary sch. There are still $200 unpaid.

The gen'l progress of the sch. for the next 7 mo's was still most satisfactory. The maximum average attendance, reaching throughout the Winter, 45 declining to 29 in hay & corn season. There were rare instances of sch's who entered sch. Primer in hand who at the session's close read their 3d Readers (Wilson's) fluently, beside making good progress in spelling & writing, & acquiring a happy facility at making large additions & subtractions - on their slates. Others, beginning abt. B&C 3 mo's in tuition were fair readers, wrote & spelled legibly, & displayed a smattering of Geography. Two dull little rogues had barely fagged through their Alphabet in the same time. Some of the former, inspired by their triumphs have gone to Washington or Baltimore to continue their studies uninterruptedly & prepare themselves for teachers.

Diminished by the absence of these, & many older ones settled in life or at service [[strikethrough]] with [[strikethrough]] & by those engaged in the ungarnered crops or insufficiently clad only an av. of 18 was sustained through the opening mo. Nov. 68. Last mu (the 12th of the sch) the av. raised to 29 with 20 names enrolled. Some of these are random
