Dear Sir.

The faithful & excellent friend of Schools, E. Nash, has shown me your letter requesting a letter from the teachers about their schools. I take pleasure in making some report of the 'Holley School' at Lottsburg, Northumberland Co - which I have the honor to teach.

A pleasant site was given by Capt. Wheeler to the Freedmen for a Chapel & school-house, close to the trees known far & wide as the "Lottsburg poplars," three magnificent tulip trees, a land-mark of such elevation as to be seen from Point Lookout. The Freedmen began their subscriptions & work on the house a year ago. They have the good fortune to count among their member an active intelligent Carpenter Pyramus Nutt - who is also one of their preachers, and zealous for the Cause, enough to [[strikethrough]] give [[/strikethrough]] do his work and wait for his pay. They have raised among themselves about $250 towards the building and have a debt of $300 - mostly due to
