Ayletts King Wm Co. Va. Feb 20th 1869
Mr. R. M. Manly,
Your letter enclosing money and receipt, is just received. Thank you. I understand about the mistake in the sent. I shall do the best I can here; without assistance from the parents of my pupils. I have no doubt but that some of them would be very willing to do something. But the greater number are under the impression that the Bureau or some thing or some body else is to help them and their children forever. So I prefer to let them alone.
I hope you will visit the School before vacation. My health is pretty good, thank you.
   Very respectfully
   C.D. Scott
