Resp. Sir,

The schools at this place and at the plantation of W.T. Scott five miles distant were organized by J.W. Cromwell, the one here, this month The other last month. The schools are supported in part by the freedmen who pay board, and Friends Freedmen Association of Phila. who pay salary.

The school here is kept in a room 30x17 owned by a colored man Henry Smith, fitted up with desks and benches to accommodate seventy scholars. The school house at W.T. Scotts plantation is a wide log house 17 ft sq. Badly fitted up was built for the express purpose at the expense of the planter.
