Mr Manly Dear Sir,
According Circular No. 2, which instructed me to make reports to you infuture, i here, avail my self of the opportunity to do so.  by the circular, I was instructed to write to you for Blanks, papers & other information concerning the school, you'll please forward the above named papers without delay as I have been without blanks for three months.  our Bureau agent, respectfully, inform him, that, S. L. Lee, late of Alexandria, had promised to furnish me with some money during the present year, I have only received pay for January.  I ask of you as a friend, to inquire about This & please to forward the money due me for Feb. Mar, I have a fine School, of 38 day scholars & 20 Night-Scholars, only charge those, who are able to pay, at the close of each month, for three years I have had to face grim want with all its frightful horrors, on account of the State being unreconstructed for the sake of high heaven, I hope you will try to do something for me, so as to drive of grim want, at least for a while, you will please to for get  me some books, which I stand greatly in need at present, my first class of ten in need of dictionarys, the second, class, second readers with reading & spelling. I must now close with Respects hoping to hear from you soon, address to Tappahannock Essex Co Va.
