I received your letter stating that you knew nothing of the arrangement of my school.  I was very much disappointed indeed for I supposed that you had been informed about it before now by Lieutenant G. W. Graham as he was the one that ordered for the school house to be built, and engaged me to teach. He said that I would get twenty five cents per month per scholar. Besides what the freedmen was to pay (but the most of them are not able to pay much. Some of them are in a very miserable condition indeed.) I wish that you would assist me if you possibly can, for I am not able to teach without pay. I was educated in Oberlin Ohio. I have been here now nearly two years but do not expect to
