Howard School, New Trent Va May 8th 1869

Mr Manly

Dear Sir:
Your kind letter of 1st inst, has come safely to hand, also the one for March; for both of which I return many thanks. The wall maps came safely to hand, and I wrote you in grateful acknowledgement of them. I also spoke of them in my next monthly report, requesting to know if Mrs Preston understood about exchanging with us? but do not know whether you received either. I am truly sorry to have appeared unmindful of your kindness, it was far from my intention. They have been of much service to the school, and I will either purchase if there is no objection, or return them at the end of the session.
The school is moving on successfully and if the weather is not too warm, could you be so kind as to support it during the month of July?
I fear I have been too wordy in some
