Haverly Station, Va,
May 20th 1809,

Rev R. M. Manley,

Sir. In a letter to me in reply to one I wrote to Maj White, you stated that you had some books in your posession given by private friends for distribution, and had you an opportunity you would send me some 1st Readers. This led me to propose sending them by Express. I have never sold any books here. Maj Ewing gave me some to supply my school with, from the Bureau. The people are unable to buy books as a general thing. Will you inform me when the Bureau schools are expected to close? Does the rent continue to be paid during the vacation? Please send blanks for rent.

Yours respectfully M M Jenning

Transcription Notes:
Please separate the parts of the letter correctly. Rev. Manley is not of Havely Station, VA. That is the sender's address. So separate his name from that. He is being written to.
