a Northern gentleman came here and commence a little school sometime a go and som Clue Clucks, came out and draged him out of the bed and assaulted him severly, and their Club law have been reigning here ever since. The people in this vicinity are very poor, but not withstanding all of this, they have purchased a place erected a house for their school, and are now willing to go as far as they can toward supporting of a teacher. Some are able to pay and some are not. The people of color here are willing to make every sacrifice that they can toward keeping up their school: and I do hope that by their efforts they ny have the sympathy the Prayers and cooperation of your Society.
In regard to my school I commenced with the books that I received from Mr. Manly. Which is, Websters, Elementary Spellers, and readers first book. I thought it best to take or keep them a month in those books with out entering upon any other; then after having done that I would commence giving them oral lessons, from arithmetic and geography. As to the punishment of my pupils, I have not as yet confined myself to any particular punishment yet. As I was
