Mr Manly
I should have written sooner, but have been wanting to get the colored people together to see what they intended to do regarding the School.
Mr Melody has been misrepresenting the School, and caused much dissension among the people, He has been persuading them not to send to my School, That I was not sent here to teach. The Bureau was paying his rent &c. And by such means he had the people completely blinded, the Trustees are men of no reliability and taking everything into consideration the people are in a bad condition generally. We had a meeting this afternoon, and they promised to fill up the School immediately, There are a large number of orphan children here who have never attended School, the people with whom they live being barely able to feed and clothe them, I have only [[strikethrough]] tw col [[/strikethrough]] thirteen pupils yet, I suppose they will be coming in now they understand everything,
I find no fault with Mss Gordon, she is very kind and seems willing & anxious to do all she can,
Very respt'f, Roberta D. Scott
