Drummondtown June 25th 1869

Dear Sir

I was very glad of the money your sent me. I was very much in need of it. I shall be very nearly ($23) twenty three dollars behind hand and hardly know where to get it. I have use about twenty dollars of my salary to meet my expenses. I received five a dollar check from General Armstrong but sent it back because I could not cash it here. That is all I have received from him. I had $40 dollars sent me from New York, which I considered as my salary. I borrowed ten dollars from Col White, the Bureau officur so he received his pay back from General Armstrong. I shall leave here the fifth of July.
Very respectfully be

D.P. Allen
