they get payed very poorly for their work. I expect they'l not pay much better than they have. I hope that the Bureau will do something for the school.
Mr. Henry Turpin wrote you concerning the school in Powhattan Co. last week, the lady Miss Josephine Burbank is an experienced teacher & sincerely pious: she is a native of Limerick Maine, & has a brother, Arthur C. Burbank who has been teaching the Freedpeople somewhere near Petersburg the last two years, you may have met him. The people are very anxious to have her come & commence at once.
If you think it not advisable for her to do so will you please inform me at your earliest convenience as the people depend on Mr. T. to do the business for them & he comes home usually every Sat. & Miss B. would like to know certain if she can have Trans., & what time to leave home, as early as possible. She is strong & healthy & I didn't know but she could stand it through the hot season much better than one who has been here several months. You are better qualified to judge about that than we are & if not prudent I wouldn't want her to come until the hot season is over.
Respectfully Yours
L.R. Harper.
