Rev. R. M. Manly
Superintendent of Education
Richmond Virginia

Very dear Sir
Yours of the 31st ult. upon its arrival last evening found me absent. I had been sent for to take charge of a "High School" in the City of Saca [[Kn?]]. I told the officers that I could not engage positively until I heard more definitely as to the prospect in Virginia - I have received a proposition to teach in "Kansas" both of which are held in abeyance until I hear from Dr. Hatfield and yourself. The fact is I would prefer going to Va. to either of the above - mentioned places. So I await your pleasure &c, &c.
I thank you most cordially for your interest in behalf of my sister.
I am dear Sir
Very Respectfully
Your Obedt. Servt.
A. C. Burbank
