Dear Sir;
In a letter a short time previous to the close of my school you indicated a wish to secure my services with the Freedmen another year. You stated that your summer work in the South would be divoted to efforts to keep up the schools then in operation in Va. I called a meeting of the  Freedmen at your request and ascertained from them a willingness to pledge themselves to 40 cents pr month. This I think is all they would be able to pay - in fact the prospect for bread another year is so disheartening that I fear they will not be able to do that. Estimating that this would average me $10 pr month from them I was willing to wish it provided I could get $40 from some other source. Miss Collins & Mrs. Lowell of the N.Y. Branch were willing to assure of $20 if you could secure $20 from the Peabody Fund or any other source. If I could as ascertain at an early day certainly about this matter. I have of all  work to do on my farm by which a number of them could pay their tuition - This is one urgent reason with me to have this matter decided upon soon.
