New Kent County Virginia September 2 1869 Mr. Manley I have taken my pen in hand to ask you if you will be so pleased to give us a school if you be so pleased for we are poor and not able to school there your children; and therefore we are suffering for the want of a school in this neighborhood and will you be so pleased to grant us a teacher for the children are growing up in ignorance for the want of a school, and their parents are not able to school them, and if you grant us a good school I can get the No of children 35 or 40 and I will see the teacher taken care of.
