Dear Sir:
In reply to your favor of the 6th I have to say that I am informed by Mr. Baxter, the former Secy. of our Branch of Education that the arrangement with Gen. Brown was that the Bureau agreed to pay $200 per month for the entire year (12 months) commencing with November 1868. We are paying rents for the full year and were confidently looking for that assistance. If we don't get it we shall be seriously embarrassed. 
We also looked with confidence for at leastthe same amt of assistance for the coming year. We are not yet fairly on our legs. We are doing much for the col'd children and want to do much more. More than half our pupils are colored children. We have during this vacation been at heavy expense to provide increased accommodations for them. And
