Richmond County, Vir.
Sept. 27th 1869.

Rev. R. M. Manly,
Yours of the 28th inst. [[strikethrough]] I [[/strikethrough]] was received on the 25th inst. you ask me to help you to a better understanding of matters in Richmond Co. In reply, I will state the straightforward Matter-of-facts, as I know them: the Freedman's School at Farmhouse Cross Roads, (I learn, for I have never been over there), is in very good condition.
Solomen Sanders did send a letter (in) my handwriting From Grove Mount. you desire to know whether the last named is the same as "pine Grove" (?) the school taught by Isaac T Duvall is situated about 300 yds from New Zion Seminary; I know no such place as "Pine Grove". I.T. Duvall's school is on Mr Maydens estate; the New Zion school (taught by myself) adjoins the Grove Mount estate, owned by Capt F Mitchell. The said school site was purchased from G. Mount estate to erect a chapel & Freedman's school.
As regards [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] matters in Westmoreland in relation to schools it is proposed to erect two (2) one at Chelton's Fork, the other near Templeman's X Road or about 4 or 5 miles apart. Their is an old building near T. X Roads which is used for a Sunday School, but is not fit for use in cold, wet weather as the said building can be repaired I am inclined to C. Fork where there is no building and any aid which may be received from you
