Rev R.M. Manly
Dear Sir;

The Freedmen being required to pay a little more this term than hitherto, desire me not to open my school till the 1st of November at which time they will be able to spare more of their children. My proposal to them is that they shall pay me $15 per month and I have explained to them that it will depend upon the size of the school what each pupil will have to pay- hence it is their intent to have a full school. It seems too I misunderstood the proposition of Mrs. Sowell. She offers me now $25 certainly $30 the extent of her payment in any month & this includes house rent too. I write to know of you if I may rely upon the $10 per month from the Peabody Fund? Please answer by return of mail.
