You mention that you could procure a commission for the teacher from some benevolent society etc As [[underline]]we[[/unerline]] are now provided for in that respect, let me say that I can start another colored school of about 20 or 30 scholars about 6 miles from here for $20. a month. A young mulatto named Josiah Thomas, formerly a successful teacher in Alexandria has recently bought a farm there. It is in a very destitute community and Thomas will teach for $20 and perhaps less as he has children himself. The colored people will arrange for the house and fuel.
