Christiansburg, Montgomery County, Va.,
October 31st 1869
Rev. R.M. Manly
Supt. of Education, Va.
Dear Sir:
In pursuance to your instructions of the 27th inst. I proceeded to Marion, Smyth Co., and made all the necessary arrangements for reopening the Freedmen's School at that place, immediately on the arrival of their Teacher = also secured suitable accommodations for the Teacher.
Can eight or ten dollars per month rent be paid on building to be occupied by the School, until they are able to secure a house of their own? I have made myself responsible for one month's rent, from the time the School opens.
Very Respectfully
CS Schaeffer
West Supt. of Education, Va.
