Yours of the 4th inst. is just received. I thank you for the promptness of the reply.

When I vacated part of this building for military use, the size of the school was considerably reduced under the tax system. But, this year, in consideration of the failure of the crops and the destitute condition of the Colored people, the Society thought it advisable to make this a free school - hence the greatly increased attendance requires every single inch of the building. I can not imagine why Capt. Collins has so repeatedly assured me that the Hospital would yield to the demands of the school. Last summer he
