Ayletts King Wm. Co. Va.
Nov. 6th. 1869.

Rev. R. M. Manly,

Dear Sir,

I opened School on the 1st. Inst. with 19 pupils, have now 24, most of whom can write very well on the slate. We have not got any desks in the school room, and I am very desirous to have them write on paper, but find them unable to purchase desk on which to write, thought perhaps you can do something to help us. There is a prospect of having a very large school.

Very respectfully,
John J. Carter.

P.S. Would like to have considerable black board surface
