Thursday 11th Nov.

Mr. Manly,

Since writing the above I have received your note of enquiry. You think it strange, no doubt that I did not write sooner, but I think our disasters must have affected my sensibilities somewhat, as they did our pockets, as considerable your private personal property; stored in one of the school rooms was consumed. You will not ascribe my silence to any want of confidence in or respect for yourself, but a thoughtless neglect. Miss Draper and I are the only teachers who have returned. We are relying upon pupil assistants for aid as needed. Are doing well considering the circumstances. Our schools are increasing in numbers. We have about 120 at present.

Very Truly Yours
J. R. Bartlett.
