I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your letter of 8th inst asking information about colored school in Warrenton Va and by leave to reply, as follows

In the spring of 1869 a Mr Cook had a very excellent school in Warrenton, it was well attended and he gave general satisfaction, he was a colored man.  When he left (in June I think) the school was closed except periodically opened by some of the trustees.  Some little while ago my wife informed me a young gentleman (white) applied to her for board, but my not being home she decided not to take him, he represented to her he was going to teach the colored school, she would have accommodated him but for my absence, he was obliged to leave because he could not get board in a private family and he could not afford to stay at a hotel, the
