I received your letter and have delayed answering it until I could be satisfied. That it was from no disposition to have a school that I had so few pupils last month.  The people are very poor and when there is any work that the children can do they set them at it.  At the time I opened school they were busy pulling peanuts.  I now have 28 scholars and a great many more have promised to come next year.  I shall open a night school after Christmas.  I have invited a great many of them they seem very sorry at the prospect of not having a school and I do hope that the deserving ones may not be left to the mercy of the unfriendly
