Clover Depot, Va. Dec 27, 1869.

Rev. R. M. Manly,

Dear Bro.,

Our house is progressing They are hauling the frame to the ground, They have pledged their labor and $27.50 toward it already I will get all I can and use as little government as possible, I will plan the size so as to finish it with $200 and perhaps less. I had 27 pupils today, and 30 more pledged. The people are awake, but my heart is sick at the evils of intemperance which I witness among both races. If you have not started the stove, send one with a lid on the top

It will take perseverance to finish this house but I will try it, and keep the school in operation also.

It will be expensive you must help us all you can

Truly yours
Alonzo B. Corliss
