Beaufort, SC. Dec 27th 1869. Rev R.M. Manly, Esteemed Friend; Mrs Annie E. Alston owes me $15.00/00 which she informs me she has authorized you to forward. I did not write as I promised as there was some clashing over the matter, and I was not decided until the 30th of Sept that I would not be sustained at Richmond. I suppose you presumed this by not hearing from me on the 15th. I hope any place in your school is better supported. I hope it will be my fortune to teach in your state another year - if nothing else more profitable turns up. I am succeeding very will thus far. Please remember
