Clover Depot Va. Dec 29. 1869

Rev. R.M. Manly

Dear Sir

Enclosed you will find duplicates signed as directed. As I shall be sure of it in about ten days. I will use what money I have on hand and keep a separate list of every item and report faithfully to you and if there is a balance unexpended it shall be returned.

The colored people are taking hold manfully, considering the drawbacks they have had. Four teams and twele [[twelve]] men were at work yesterday. The house will go up to day. It will be 25 by thirty. I have used one half of the frame. I had decided to do so before I saw you. I agree with you exactly.

We have 47 pupils enrolled already, and twenty more promised. Please another elbow with the stove pipe, or when you send me another package which I may need soon. I may be obliged to order some things direct from Richmond, but I will do all I can myself without troubling you.

I have received reports. Register &c It is still pleasant to listen to the first glad shout of happy school children.
