Mr Manly Dear Sir having commenced my school on the 1st of the month, or rather Monday, and find that I have considerable competition for more books than I really have at present I take pleasure in making the following list and solicit your kindness to supply me with as many of each kind as I shall require, and send them down to Old Church P.O. - if possible in the first mail after the reception of this.

N.B. you will please pick me up of Mc-Guf’s Series of Primers one dozen copies -
Spelling Books of the same Series six copies -
of the primary grammar you showed me 4 copies -
of National Second readers, the number you marked -
of primary Dictionary Websters Edition one copy -

Very Respectfully your Obedient
Servant William P. Brown

I have a total enrollment of pupils for the month of forty-nine, and feel that there is no doubt as to my being able to make a report of an average attendance of 30 and over - But to give you a better assurance of that, I shall write to you again on the 15th inst. with further particulars which will be more Satisfactory.
