R.M. Manly Esqr Charlotte Ct. House
Jan, 19th 1870
Dear Sir
The coloured school on my plantation near Charlotte Ct. House in now in succefiful operation with as good prospects as it had last year for patronage & support I hope it will be in your power to continue the same payment $5:00 per month for rent all of which which has been and will be appropriated to the use of the school under the direction of the most intelligent of its patrons. It has already done much good being heretofore applied in fitting up the house and making it more comfortable for the scholars. The House is now in a most excellent condition for a school. The school commenced about ten days ago.
Respectfully
Wm. L. Scott
