Halifax, C.H. March 27th 1870
Mr Manly-
Dear Sir,
I write hoping to hear from you immediately - What prospect, is there for my getting a situation as teacher in the preschool. I am a country girl but made it my business to visit you about the first of March at which time you were absent from the city as I was informed by him whom I learned was your son. I have been teaching honest constantly, for 8 years until the last year, or so. Our country has become so poor not many gentlemen feel themselves able to employ teachers. I have testemonials of some for whom I have taught who give me much praise. I learned from a friend of mine that there would be no denial. about your giving me such a position (One with whom you are we acquainted)if we could have seen you the day we called at you house but I was necessarily compelled to leave Richmond on Wednesday while your son informed me you would not return until Thursday. You will please answer this as I may learn something of what time my services would be needed should you be so gracious s to favor, me with interceding in my behalf
for such -
I would be yours most gratefully. Mary G Tiles?.
