Christiansburg, Va., March 31st 1870

Rev. R.M. Manly
Supt. of Education, Va.
Dear Sir:
I have succeeded during the past month, in visiting the balance of counties, named in my order of Dec. 27th, 1869- although I could not give them as much time as I had anticipated. On the 7th inst. started for Wytheville, and spent two days with the school; also made preliminary arrangements to leave school building for the Friends Association. The new Asst. teacher had just arrived, and I found the school in a very favorable condition. From thence visited the school at Speedwell taught by J Crockett Sheffy, but found only four Scholars present, and the teacher about closing up the school states that most of the scholars have gone south. I next visited the school at Pleasant Grove, taught by the Rev. Shadrach Jones "Col'd" and found a large number of pupils, with considerable interest manifested by them in their studies. On the 11th returned to Christiansburg and on the 13th started for Brush Creek, where my Services were specially needed. Spent some little time with the school, and was delighted with the advancement made by the Scholars during the past months.
