Charlottesville, April 10, 1870.
Mr. R.M. Manly.
Dear Sir,
Your letter of the 5th instant was duly received. I hope there will be an opening for Julie French next session, as her mother has kept her in school for five sessions looking for such a result. She is a girl of as much ability as Mary Conyers though not so pleasing.
I received a long and very pleasant letter from Mary Conyers the other day. She told me what you had done for her and seemed to feel very grateful. She wrote in excellent spirits, and said she did not think she could be better situated.
