Lynchburg April 25th, 1870
Rev R.M. Manly
Richmond
My best Sir-
I was in Richmond on Thursday the 21st inst and called to see you but as you was from home I did not have the pleasure of seeing you. The object of my visit was to learn of you the proper steps to be taken on the part of the city of Lynchburg to obtain the benefit of the Peabody Educational Fund. I shall be well pleased if you will give me that information. I am president and member of the city council, and feel an interest in all that concerns the city. And as a man never was engaged in a more noble enterprise than he who is engaged in endevering to defure light and knowledge among all sorts and condition of men. I hope you will excuse the liberty that I have taken and will reply to me at your earliest convenience.
I remain your obt Servant.
John Boifseau
