Dear Sir
I am induced to write you to ascertain if there is not some way by which some pecuniary aid can be obtained for Mrs Emma Haslam she has laboured incessantly for the good of the freed people nearly a year is a very competent & efficient teacher and a very intelligent & interesting young lady The school and house is situated in a swamp where she has lived endured & made sacrifices that not one in a thousand would have done and with all is without parents and entirely dependent on her own exertions for support what she has received the past year has barely furnished sustenance, cannot rent be obtained from the Bureau for the building in which she teaches as is done in some cases I do think her very deserving she expects
