This being the only school in Buckingham, Co. for colored children, mak it very hard on me as a teacher.

The increasing numbers of children continually; coming to school; and a great many times without father or mother, unable a great many of them even to get clothes; and knowing that, the only way that a people can be, civilize or christianize, is through education.

For this knowledge therefore, I shall have a thorough examination at the close of the term; and I ask you or through you some of the friends for whom I have been labouring, and was till labouring, to come down, or up or over and see us.

I urge you or some of the kind friends to come be cause I do not like to work for any body without they come some time or other and see it.

My wages have been very low, but I have not discourage for that. With respect, I am yours, A. M. Childs.
