West Point May 5th 1870.

Rev. RM Manly,

My school is getting along very well.  Mr. Jones sent me down three grammars, and I have organized a class.  It seems to come hard to them at first, but as they are apt and eager to learn to learn I think they will make an interesting class

I rec'd a letter from Mrs Cheney (secretary of the N. E. Society) directing me to close my school May 15th in consideration of the smallness of it.  The children are very sad.  They say it would be hard to part with me the last of June, but as they know I must go, it would not be so sudden.  I feel more sorry for the night scholars, as they have had
