My dear Brother
Mrs. St Johns, is here from Richmond, soliciting aid for a Hospital, for the helpless aged and infirm and for orphans in Richmond. She represents that the "Home," with which she is there connected will seek an incorporation from the legislature at the proper time; that it had when she left, about sixty inmates, and more have been added since: that they have received aid in feeding them, from the city, but since the great disaster there, this has been suspended possibly only temporarily; that the money she raised for rent has been diverted to meet present necessities for food[[?]], and now the rent must be paid. Friends in Mr Beecher's church, are ready to forward money to pay this and possibly & supply further aid: but they
