Dear Sir-
Your esteemed favor of the 21st is this day received. Please pardon my carelessness in failing to sign the letter of inquiry concerning Mrs St Johns, & her Home for Helpless Aged & Infirm people & orphans.
We have received at our Rooms today a letter from Rev. Chas. E. Hodges, dated at Richmond Va. He is a colored man, and I believe a member of the Virginia legislature. I find that I probably misapprehended the name of the woman referred to; as Mr Hodges, her brother, gives her the name of Mrs [[Julia?]] [[?]] the Johns. The property he described is in the hands of Mrs. [[Appleti?]], for sale. He represents the [[?]] as good, clear of all concern [[?]], and cosisting of a dwelling with thirteen rooms and a Ritcher[[?]], and with two acres of land.

He represents the "title" as good, thirteen rooms and a "kitchen"
