at the earliest day possible, so that the school can be re-organized, under a more suitable Teacher — and be directly under the control and superintendency of the Officers of the Bureau.

I think the present difficulty or interference by the whites, has been caused by an injudicious course pursued by the present Teacher. And although he is a resident of the Town, and well known by the citizens, yet I do not consider him the proper person, to prosecute successfully the interests of said school.

The School House at Neck Creek, Pulaski County, is now completed — for particulars, I refer you to my Special Report of the 13th inst.

Quite a number of applications for assistance have been made from the Freed-people residing in different portions of this Sub-District, towards establishing schools in their own localities, and who are willing to aid in the work of building School Houses, if they could receive the encouragement and co-operation of the Bureau.
