Bureau R. F. and A. L.
Office A. S. A. Comr., Fairfax Co, Va.
Falls Church, April 30th 1867.

Capt. S. P. Lee.
Sub. Asst. Comr. 10th Dist. Va.

Captain,

x Extract. x x x

The schoolhouses are totally inadequate to accommodate the scholars, most of them are very low, built of logs and mud, poorly ventilated, miserably furnished, and so small that half the scholars must remain outside while the other half recites.

Some of them, when I came here, had neither locks, nor hinges on the doors.

There are eight schools, now in operation, and three more will commence as soon as the schoolhouses are completed: one of these, at Annandale, will be finished in a few days, and the other two within a month, probably.

I am, Captain
Very Respectfully
