(Extract)
The schools in this Division are gradually gaining in favor among the people. No. 1, at Christiansburg, numbers eighty eight scholars, who are advancing rapidly in their studies, and will compare favorably with any school in the District, either white of black. All we want to make it a great success is a suitable school house.
This interest is under the patronage of the N.Y. Branch of the Freedmans Union Commission and has for a teacher a young lady well qualified for the position to which she has been assigned.
School No. 2, at Newbern, Pulaski Co, I regret to state has been temporarily suspended on account of the instability of its teacher and his lack of qualifications necessary to make it a success.
