Remarks
We have had several schools in successful operation for some time under the provision of the U.S. Genl [[Assembly?]] Presbyterian Church. The Rev Thos G. Murphy late Chaplain of the 1st Del Vols., Superintendent. At this place we have a school of some 60 schollars. At Dennisville some 80 schollars. These two schools are taught by northern ladies. At Lodore J.J. Saddler a native is teaching on his own land. His school is self sustaining except in part for books; has some thirty schollars. Could have a large school if he had room. At Painsville, Edmond Delany a(always free) cold [[colored]] man is teaching with a small school. We have lately started a school near Mt Zion ([[July 10?]]) two cold [[colored]] men students from Lincoln University - Penn are teaching with 122 schollars. At this place (Mt Zion) we had an acre of ground given us, and the cold [[colored]] people built the house. it is not completed yet. We are in need of Sash & Glass. All these schools are making wonderful progress. Children that six months ago did not know their letters are now reading, writing and a few in practicle arithmetic. A small amount of means judiciously expended would build
